Olive oil
Mixture of refined and extra virgin olive oil

Ingredients:
80% refined olive oil,
20% extra virgin olive oil

Characteristics:
Olive Oil, made from top quality olives naturally grown under the hot Mediterranean sun, is the product of blended oils, which have been refined to balance acidity, aroma, and taste. Refining makes the oil colourless, odourless and flavourless. Virgin olive oil is then added in small quantities (typically 5 to 25%) to give the oil some character. Olive oil must have an acidity of less than 1.5%. While less flavourful and aromatic than extra virgin olive oil, olive oil is high in monounsaturated fat and remains a healthy choice of cooking oil.

Like all vegetable and seed oils, olive oil is cholesterol-free.

All oils have the same number of calories (124 calories per tablespoon); all are 100% fat. But, because olive oil is more flavourful than other oils, less is needed to add great taste to salads and other foods thus it is the healthier option.

The best way to store olive oil is in an airtight container in a dry cupboard, away from extremes of heat and light.

Usage:

  • preparation of salads, marinades and other cold dishes
  • roasting, stewing and frying of meat, fish and vegetables
  • basting meats before barbecuing
  • as a condiment to flavour foods – drizzle over cooked rice, pasta, salads, …
  • for a tasty snack pour a trickle of olive oil on toast with a clove of garlic

Shelf life of the product: 18 months

Properties:

Thanks to a high share of single saturated fatty acids, β-sitostrol and, most importantly,squalen, olive oil is particularly suitable for healthy meals.

Olive oil is often referred to as liquid gold and helps lower cholesterol.

Origin and quality:

Since the supply of olives in Slovenia is so small, Gea purchase oils from Italy and Spain who have the same olives as are available in Slovenia.

In many ways this is advantageous since there is a huge supply of olive oil in Spain and Italy, Gea are afforded the luxury of demanding the highest quality and undertake strict analyses each time they import this oil.

Though the oil is sourced from different places, the quality is always consistent – every single batch is tried and tested to ensure they maintain the high quality they take pride in.
